Kayaking in Palau

We are off to another great adventure and this time we are heading to Palau!  You may be thinking this is another hiking trip . . . nope. . . .no hiking this time!  Eleven days of sea kayaking and snorkeling through the spectacular Rock Islands of Palau.

National Geographic calls Palau one of the "world"s last Edens", there are more than 700 coral species and over 1,500 species of fish in the waters.  Palau is an island country located in the western Pacific Ocean.  Geographically, it is part of Micronesia.  There are only about 21,000 people living in Palau, only 8 of the 200 islands are inhabited.

Getting to Palau is quite the journey.  We will leave Phoenix on Monday night and fly to Los Angeles, spend the night in LAX.  Tuesday at 1pm we will fly to Tokyo, Japan (Narita Airport) arriving at 4pm on Wednesday afternoon (12 hour flight).  We will then board another plane that will fly 5 hours almost due South to Koror Palau, arriving at 11:30pm Wednesday night.  Total time change from Pacific Coast time will be 17 hours ahead!!

We will start in Koror and kayak to Carp Island (solid black line), camping on the beach for six nights.  The good news is that we have tents we can stand up in, cots to sleep on, and solar showers!   Some of the trip highlights will be seeing giant clams, swimming in a lake full of non stinging jelly fish, incredible coral gardens, and unbelievable star gazing!

I will be able to blog from the hotel before and after the trip. . .we will be totally off the grid for 7 days while exploring the Rock Islands!

I am so excited for this adventure!  Hopefully, my first blog will be next Thursday from a my lounge chair at the Palau Pacific Resort with my umbrella drink in hand!!!
