Just Add . . . .Robert Redford

Welcome to Thailand!  We are in the northern end of Thailand in a place called the "golden triangle", where Thailand, Burma, and Laos are a river apart!  We are staying at the Four Seasons Tent Camp built into the side of the hill. . .you can see the double peaked tents in the photo below.  The resort has 15 tents that are spaced out over 1.5 km length.

You arrive at the resort via a longboat and walk up a step set of stairs to this gong.  Tradition has it that you hit the gong three times for luck.
Jeanna ringing the lucky gong
You can see me really taking a hit at the gong because I couldn't hear Jeanna's gong!  I almost injured my shoulder again :-)!
Deb making sure the gong sounds for good luck
The inside of the tent was made to look at the expedition tents in the early 19th century.  We had just watched "Out of Africa" on the plane a couple of days ago and I expected Robert Redford to walk in at any moment.  The attention to detail in the room is astonishing!  The pictures hanging in the backgroud hang from animal tusks!
Bedroom half of the tent
The bathroom is huge and the two doors on the back wall are the shower (left) and toilet room (right).  The toilet room has an antique trunk in it and a floor lamp!  The bathtub is the centerpiece of the room with a beautiful antique finish on the inside and wrapped in copper!

We have double sinks!!!  If you can see the horns on either side of the sinks. . . they are the faucet knobs!  In addition to make this tent even more spectacular we have air conditioning and wifi!!!!

There is a double deck outside the tent just outside the two big picture windows that runs the length of the tent.  The deck has a table and chairs and a lovely daybed to read in or enjoy the scenery!  We overlook the Ruak River and Burma!  You can see the elephants down below grazing in the jungle!

Tomorrow we are up early again to enjoy a Three Country Tour in the morning and then in the afternoon we will don our Mahouk clothing and shoes and learn to train the elephants!  Look for photos tomorrow morning (we are 14 hours ahead of Phoenix time)!

  4. Lovely! I love Thailand. Eat some delicious Pad Thai for me. The 4 seasons is known for their Pad Thai with the egg net.... OH and a big tall glass of real Thai iced tea. Sweet, but perfect.

(here's an idea - - just get Jeanna to wash your hair for you. If she's super quiet, you can imagine her as RR)

  5. Fabulous post Deb! Your room is SO lovely, and the double tent routine right out of Thailand - have you seen Robert yet? It would be funny if he popped in to say hi, or to fluff your pillows, or paint your toes :).
